Review:

If you’ve read any of Stephen Jones’ anthologies before then you’ll know just what high quality collections he puts together, no matter what theme he chooses. I’d only finished reading his previous Zombie Apocalypse collection last week before starting on this collection based on an Angel theme.

There are 27 stories in this collection with five by author Jay Lake, fourteen previously printed stories, such as the century old story, The Bowmen by Arthur Machen, and eight new short stories by various authors. One of the interesting aspects of four of the reprinted stories is that they have been revised and updated for this collection, so even if you’ve read them before, you’ll find them slightly different.

Editor Stephen Jones is noted for his horror anthologies and, but this collection has not just famous horror masters like Ramsey Campbell, Graham Masterton and Sarah Pinborough, but also science fiction legend Robert Silverberg and modern fantasy fable legends Neil Gaiman and Jane Yolen. And then there are the multi-genre authors who have done everything from award-winning horror to bestselling crime thrillers such as Christopher Fowler, Conrad Williams and Michael Marshall Smith.

You can’t go wrong if you buy a book with Jones’ name listed as the editor, and this new collection reinforces his ability to collect the cream of the crop.
