Colossal rogue waves are nature's most deadly new phenomena - meet the obsessed super surfers and sceintists who dare to cross their path.

DESCRIPTION OF BOOK

Our oceans are once more haunted by monsters. Dramatically larger in size, power and frequency, today's rogue waves pumell everything in their path. These 100-foot demons flatten oil rigs and sink massive ships. More disturbingly still, they seem to disobey nature herself, swelling when logic shows they should be running out of steam.

Obsessed by these monsters, extreme surfers stare down death to ride them and scienists sail into their path in the hopes of unlocking what makes them tick.

Bestselling author of The Devil's Teeth, Susan Casey, takes us on a white knuckle journey among these wave junkies. With surf guru Laird Hamilton as mentor we go from Hawaiian beaches to ocean liners in peril. This is a nail-biting game of cat and mouse with 100-foot wave.

Review

Wave is a book about the harsh and unforgiving rogue, or freak, waves that are increasingly happening in the oceans around the world with the current global warning crisis. As the earth warms up, the unpredictable, powerful waves increase and grow larger and more wild. THE WAVE follows surfers & scientists as they pursue these huge oceanic events.

The author also goes into interesting details about the number of huge ships, especially the low-riding tankers, that just disappear without a trace and with little if any media coverage is amazing. Often these ships are registered to countries with loose maritime standards and crewed by under-trained third world natives.

This is a very interesting and informative book not only for surfing fans but those curious about the change in the patterns of the oceans waves. The book also contains information on maritime insurance, climate change, marine salvage companies, lots of people and organizations involved with the vagaries of oceanic behavior.
