Harper can find dead people, but now it's clear someone wants her dead...

It's taken a while, but at last Harper's pretty happy with her life: she's making a living, using her unique talent to help people and she's got a lover - her stepbrother Tolliver. That creeps some people out, but though they grew up together and got each other through the real bad times - their parents' drug-use, the abuse, the disappearance of Harper's elder sister Cameron - they're not blood relatives. Then Tolliver's dad arrives on the scene, seeking forgiveness for the sins of their youth and the police get a tip-off that after all these years, Cameron's been spotted in a mall. With all this going on Harper realises life is getting a little complicated, but she doesn't expect those complications to include Tolliver getting shot, or watching a cop die taking a bullet for her.Harper can find dead people, but now it's clear someone wants her dead...

Review:

Grave Secret is the forth book in the Harper Connelly series by the writing machine commonly known as Charlaine Harris. For those who aren’t familiar with Harris’ other series, this one is not about vamps and fang bangers, but rather a young woman with the ability to sense the recently deceased. This appears to be winding up the Harper Connelly series so I can’t see Harris writing any more sequels with this character, which is a shame as she was quite interesting.

Grave Secrets sees Connelly’s past come to light, with the current mystery linked into her own family history and deceased relatives. There are quite a few loose ends tied up in this novel, round off the series quite sufficiently. Harper is left to fend for herself in this book, with Tolliver laid up in hospital and unable to be her constant source of support as seen in previous books. Without Tolliver at her side, Connelly really develops as a character and it is a shame that the series ends here with so much more on offer now with a stronger main character.

Well worth the read.
